Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, on a visit to Jennifer Efedi, a woman stabbed for wanting to exercise her voting right in the last Presidential and National Assembly elections, has described her as the true manifestation of a profile of courage.
Obi, in a social media post said after a visit to her home: “Today, I visited Mrs Jennifer Efedi. She was attacked on 25 February in an attempt to stop her from voting. She stood her ground. Jennifer is one of the great icons of Nigeria’s democracy. She is my point of contact with every Nigerian who suffered similar fate in their bid to exercise their voting rights, & contribute to a new Nigeria. Like many Nigerians, I acknowledge her bravery & resoluteness. Jennifer is a true manifestation of Profile in Courage for a new Nigeria.”
Mrs Efedi became an instant heroine after a post of her attack by thugs by political thugs at a polling unit in the Surulere area of Lagos State.
Within a space of three hours the social media post of the attack on Efedi had hit nearly a million.
The thugs came to destroy electoral materials and attacked voters, including Efedi, who defied them.
Mrs. Efedi wound was stitched, but she returned to cast her vote.
Meanwhile, known supporter of Lagos Governor and the Chairman of the Lagos State Park Management System, Mr. Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, caught on camera threatening voters with violence at if they did not vote the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Senator Bola Tinubu, at the last election, has now taken to begging for votes for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
A video of his apology to Lagosians, plea in Yoruba language for votes, and prayers for voters is currently trending on social media platforms.
