*PRAYER is a universal language.* People of every race, tribe, religion and age pray. Yet many miss out on the goal and essence of effectual prayer._
*We are often driven to prayer by a desire, a need or a challenge*. And the Word of God urges us so to do. Our expectation then is to derive from God the answers we desire, when and how we desire them. God’s will, means and timing are often secondary. That is demeaning._
*David received a verdict from the Lord* that the child from his adultery with Bersheba will die. He prayed and fasted for a change. When it did not come, he surrendered to God’s will.
(2 Sam. 12:15-22)
*Our Lord Jesus did the same*. He desired of God that the cross passover Him. Yet in praying, He surrendered to God’s will, not His wish (Luke 22:42)
*The goal of prayer is never to make God do our bidding but to shape us to accept and do His will*.
