After weeks of back and forth reports and denials, Biafra separatist agitator based in Finland, Simon Ekpa, has been arrested by the Police in that country.

Considered one of the leaders of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was arrested on Thursday, according to sundry reports including one by Finnish news agency Helsingin Sanomat,
(HS).

A journalist with the agency, Matilta Jokinen, who said Ekpa is in the custody of security operatives.

Recall that Ohaneze Ndigbo, a socio-cultural group of Igbo speaking peoples had accused Ekpa of sponsoring terrorism in South-East, and called on the Federal and Finnish governments to arrest him.

Jokinen had gone to Ekpa’s house to interview him and saw security officers at Ekpa’s home on arrival.

“I went to interview him this morning. When I reached his house and knocked, the police told me that I could not interview him for work as they and the person I came to interview was Siomn Ekpa is in their hands,” she was quoted in the media as saying.

His arrest is coming after the government filed a complaint with Finnish government over his offensive messages on social media.

He had even ordered a sit-at-home order from his Finnish base to coincide with Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly polls.

Many blame part of the increased violence in the last few days to the election on his inciting comments, which political observers said could lead to voters apathy in the South-East.
