With just less than 48 hours to the Presidential and National Assembly elections, blood-curdling violence has claimed the life of Mr. Oyibo Chukwu, the Labour Party’s (LP) Senatorial candidate for Enugu East.
Five of his supporters were also killed, amid other reports that said Chukwu’s body was burnt in the vehicle he was traveling in.
Another candidate for the Enugu North/South Federal Constituency on the platformof the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oforchukwu Egbo, came under fire, escaping but lost a driver in the convoy of vehicles that was attacked. Reports said the driver’s body was burnt in his vehicle.
The LP senatorial candidate was billed to contest the Senate seat against former governor and sitting senator, Dr.Chimaroke Nnamani of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Ada Ogbu of the All Progressives Congress, (APC).
The tragic incident was said to have happened happened at Eke-Otu in Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Government Area of the State.
