“Lord … let me bring you this complaint: Why are the wicked so prosperous? ” (Jer. 12:1, NLT)
(Part 1)
Life, to many a curious observer, appears so unfair. It seems to be skewed in favor of the wicked and the ungodly. They reap bountiful benefits and advance from their crime and wickedness. And they get away with it? It calls to question the justice of God.
This puzzle is not new. God’s people of old faced the same dilemma. ASAP, the songwriter, in Psalm 73, sang about this: “Truly God is good to Israel… But as for me, I almost lost my footing… For I envied the proud when I saw them prosper despite their wickedness… Did I keep my heart pure for nothing …. I get nothing but trouble all day long…” (vs.1-3, 13-14, NLT)
Prophet Jeremiah, in a humble and reverent manner, asked God “…Why do bad people have it so good? Why do con artists make it big? (Jer.12:1, MSG)
We shall be looking at possible answers next week.
