A man allegedly spat at a child, hit an old man and made anti-Semitic remarks to a young woman at the Berlin Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe.

The suspect fled without being identified, said police on Saturday.

The incident occurred on Friday at around 12:30 pm.

The police were called after a pedestrian suddenly spat at a 5-year-old child.

The unidentified man initially walked away in the direction of the nearby Brandenburg Gate but returned shortly afterwards.

He then allegedly hit an 80-year-old tourist on the back of the head with his hand and made anti-Semitic remarks to a 19-year-old woman.

The suspect fled in the direction of the Tiergarten, a large park in the German capital, and was not found during a search, said the police.

State security are investigating on charges of both physical and verbal assault.
