From The Preacher
BABYLON IS FALLEN
1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird._
Revelation 18:1-2.
“Babylon the great is fallen.” There’s none so Great that they cannot fall. Even the great can fall; such colossal fall as not mere mortals but only angels may announce, great angels with a strong voice raised mightily in the high heavens.
Sometimes mortals get so mighty that they think themselves too mighty to fall, as falling, to them, is the fate only of lesser and weaker folks. When these fall, they fall with such a rebound from their proud heights that once is never sufficient to announce their double fall: “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen.” In this season, may Babylon fall, and fall. Amen and amen. The time is near for this Fall; a fall that only mighty angels may announce, for mortals dare not trespass such lofty falls with their common lips.
Not only the *great* fall; the *mighty* also fall, then nobles lament, “How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle!” (2 Samuel 1:25). The great that pride themselves in their wealth, and the mighty that pride themselves in their strength – the heavens shall announce both their sentence. Of them, Isaiah the prophet says, “For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness” (Isaiah 47:10). Alas their confidence in oppressive wickedness with which they always strangely get away, saying, “None seeth me.” The wisdom and knowledge by which others build cities, in them is corrupted. “Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee.” They are wise to kill rather than build, but the Most High rules also in the affairs of men. Amen (Daniel 4:32).
May the heavens soon announce the earth-shaking fall and fall of Great Babylon. Amen.
