A High Court in Abuja on Wednesday nullified its earlier order committing the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba to three months’ imprisonment.

Two weeks ago, the court committed Alkali to prison for contempt of the court.

Justice Bolaji Olajuwon declared that there was evidence before the Court that the Inspector-General has substantially complied with the order of the court that the police high command should reinstate Patrick Okoli, a Chief Superintendent of police, who was compulsorily retired from the force 12 years ago.

“In view of the substantial compliance with the order of the court and the assurance of ensuring full compliance, the order commuting the applicant, IGP, Usman Alkali Baba, is hereby set aside”, the judge said.

Furthermore, following pleas by Alkali’s lawyer, Mr. Simon Lough, SAN, the order of court sentencing him was vacated.
