The Stefanos Foundation in Plateau State has called on the Government to look into the killing of 11 persons and the burning of homes and a church by alleged Fulani militants. It wants perpetrators to be immediately brought to book.

In a post on its Facebook page, the non-government organisation states: “Stefanos Foundation offers her condolences to the indigenes of Maikatako community in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State over the Tuesday, 15th November, 2022 attack that claimed 11 lives and left 7 others now hospitalized.

“Speaking with residents of the community, Stefanos Foundation gathered that the attack was carried out by Fulani Militants. According to the report, the militants were identified by their language and their dressing.

“Enquires revealed that earlier, on 14th November, 2022, a Fulani man died in a motor accident which occurred about 3km away from Maikatako community. According to our source, following the death of their compadre, a threat suspected to be from the militants was issued to the community.

“On receiving the threats, the community immediately reported to the security operatives who also responded promptly and sent soldiers to the community but despite the military presence within the community the Fulani Militants still came in their numbers and carried out their attack.

“Sad to say that this unprovoked attack on Maikatako Community gruesome, leaving 11 dead, 9 of whom were burnt beyond recognition in their houses. A church nearby was also burnt down, properties were destroyed and 7 people are currently receiving medical attention for injuries that they had no reason getting involved with.

“It is clear that Fulanis in Nigeria are now warlords, taking the laws into their hands and claiming lives of innocent Nigerians over unbacked grievances and purported injustice.

“Stefanos Foundation is calling on the Government to look into this killings and immediately bring these criminals to book”
