For the umpteenth time, the national electricity grid is believed to have collapsed, with two distribution companies in Enugu and Abuja announcing the development to consumers.
Five hours after, the daylight ‘blackout’ is still on in most parts of Nigeria. All south-East and Notth-Central states, including Abuja are still out and depending on alternative sources of power supply, where affordable.
In Enugu, the spokesman for Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) collaborated what the Abuja Electricity Distribution, Plc (AEDC) said that the collapse happened at about 10.55 a.m.
Mr. Emeka Eze from EEDC wrote: “The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) wishes to inform her esteemed customers of a system collapse which occurred at 10:51am today, 26th September, 2022. This has resulted to the loss of supply currently being experienced across the network.
“Due to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide service to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States.
“We are on standby awaiting detailed information of the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre (NCC), Osogbo.”
In Abuja, the statement reads: “Dear esteemed customer, please be informed that the current power outage is due to a system failure from the National Grid.
“The system collapsed at about 10:55am Today, 26th September 2022, causing the outage currently being experienced.
“We appeal for your understanding as all stakeholders are working hard to restore normal supply. Thank you”.
No effort has been made to check the quantum of loss the country suffers when a collapse happens, but for about seven times this year alone, the loss could run into hundreds of billions of Naira.
As always, the word from the distribution companies that have spoken up so far is that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is to blame. Word is expected soon from TCN.
