In season of declarations, will Professor Yemi Osinbajo step out on Monday?

Must read

Speculations are rife that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will make his much-talked about declaration of intention to seek the most-coveted politicak seat in Nigeria this week, perhaps on Monday.

Already, there is a crowded list of prominent aspirants including Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, Minister Rotimi Amaechi who did a 400 meters sprint at the Port Harcourt Stadium before his declaration on Saturday.

Others are such political bigwigs like serial contender, Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, former Senate President; Dr. Bukola Saraki, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Isa Hayatudeen, former Senate President; Anyim Pius Anyim; former Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State, Businessman Sam Ohabunwa.

Others known to have ambitions but are yet to make a public declaration are former Imo State Governor,  Senatof Rochas Okorocha;  former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and a host of others

It is still not clear if former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, would join the fray to take a plunge for another four years he is entitled to, as has been speculated, but it is instructive that months after the speculations concerning him began flying, he has not uttered a word of denial directly.

Chatter in a quarter on Sunday suggested that Osinbajo was primed to announce his intention, but official sources, including his spokesman, Mr. Laolu Akande, kept pursed lips when prodded.

If Osinbajo joins the race, the jostle for the Office of theChief Executive of Nigeria in these trying times of insecurity and economic malaise will bring out the best in all those hoping to contest the hot seat, as they would have to explain how they plan to get the country out of both pits of quagmire
