At least eight lives may have been lost in the attack on the train that was virally reported by the media Monday night, sources from Kaduna are saying.

At least 16 others received varying degrees of injury, going by a list sent to Everyday.ng, but which cannot be published because it is not known if family members have been briefed.

Five persons, including one Ibrahim Wakala, believed to be a former deputy governor of Zamfara State, sustained gun shot injuries. Some of the injured were moved to the military hospital in the City of Kaduna.

However, there are pictures and videos making the rounds on social media, even as the railway corporation has suspended travel on the lucrative Abuja-Kaduna route.

On its Twitter handle, the Nigeria Railway Corporation ((NRC) stated: “Dear passengers, due to unforeseen circumstances, Train operations along the Abuja-Kaduna route has been temporarily suspended.

“Further Communication would be given in due course.”

Meanwhile, the Managing Director of the NRC, Fidel Okhiria has confirmed the attack on the Abuja-Kaduna, saying ‘We have confirmed the attack, but we cannot give you much information right now’.

”From the reports we have gotten, most of the passengers have gone into hiding and the officials on board are yet to give us a report of the situation.

”There are reports of gunshots and the train derailed due to the attack,” Okhiria said.
