Growing Up

Must read

By Buti Sam Kputu

“Lord, what do You want me to do?” (Acts 9:6, NKJV)

Little Abigail is my favourite niece. She is such a bundle of joy, but quite handful. One day, Abigail asked me out of the blues, “Big daddy”, as she calls me, “what makes you a daddy and me a baby, and when will I too become a daddy?” I was torn between laughter and sober reflection.

Responsibility is what distinguishes children from adults*
. We mature into adults when we begin to seek and take responsibility rather that seeking attention and entitlement. And what is true of the natural is also true of the spiritual. For as long as our Christian experience is centered merely around seeking blessings, ‘kingdom rights’  and entitlements , we are like Abigail- mere babies.

Growth and maturity in Christian living comes when we begin to seek and take responsibility. Our prayers and pursuits then move from what The Lord will do for us to what He will have us do in and for His kingdom.
