Life here on earth is full of expectations; some realistic, others mere fantasies. Not to hope for a better tomorrow or a happier ending to the myriad challenges we face is to sink in despair and live defeated.
For believers in the Lord Jesus, our greatest expectation is that He who was taken away in glory will yet return in greater glory and grandeur. And when He returns, He will put an end to all that is our troubles in this life – trials, pains, sorrow, injustice, misgovernance and the reign of evil around us.
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am” (John 14:1-4).
Some deride this our hope and expectation as mere escapism; indeed it is our great escape!
