These are not the best of times for Police crack detective, Deputy Commissioner Abba Kyari, as the recommendation of the Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Usman Baba, for his suspension has been endorsed by Police Service Commission (PSC).
On Saturday, Police Force spokesman, Police Commissioner Frank Mba, said the IGP recommended that Kyari be suspended. On Sunday, the approval came through.
Within a space of a week, Kyari fell from grace, having been implicated by internet fraudster, Ramon ‘Hushpuppi’ Abbas, in the arrest of another fraudster after allegedly receiving a bribe from him.
The PSC explained in a letter conveying the suspension that its decision followed the indictment of Kyari by the Gederal Bureau a Investigation (FBI) in a US court in the trial of Hushpuppi. The US court ordered the arrest of Kyari.
The PSC letter states that DCP Abba Kyari’s suspension took effect from Saturday, July 31, 2021 and would subsist pending the outcome of the investigation in respect of his indictment by the FBI.
The PSC requested the Police chief to keep it abreast of further development on the Kyari matter for necessary action.
The PSC statement on Kyari’s suspension reads:
