Plateau denies lifting curfew as five are killed in Bassa

Five persons have been killed in Bassa Local Government Area, though there is dusk to curfew there, Comrade Danjuma Dickson Auta, Secretary General of the Irigwe Development Association has confirmed.

His words, “Last night, 17th August 2021, one of our villages, Chando-Zrrechi (Tafi-Gana), was attacked last night by Fulani Herdsmen.

“Five people confirmed dead so far at Tafi Gana village of Miango District Irigwe Chiefdom”.

“This is apart from another son of Irigwe killed at Dong village of Jos North LGA, in the evening of 16th August 2021, despite the 24 hour curfew imposed on the council…

“As the Irigwe nation continue to receive attacks from left right and centre, over the unfortunate incident at Rukuba road, where innocent commuters which the Irigwe nation knows nothing about and we have continue to distance ourselves from the ungodly act as peace loving citizens.

He called on security agencies and the government to end the persistent attacks meted out on their communities.

“If nothing is done to avert this ugly trend, Irigwe people will be wiped out. We see this as ethnic cleansing.”

Meanwhile, following rife rumours of the State government lifting the curfew it imposed in parts of the state, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Dan Manjang, has debunked the rumours.

A statement he issues reads: “Members of the public are to note that the curfew earlier imposed on Jos North, Jos South and Bassa Local Government Areas still remains in place. 

“For the avoidance of doubt, the curfew in Jos North is for 24 hours while that of Bassa and Jos South LGAs is from 6pm to 6am. 

“Members of the public are advised to disregard any rumour of review of the current curfew. 

“If and when Government reaches any decision on the curfew, such decision will be promptly conveyed to the citizens. 

“Government uses this opportunity to appreciate citizens of the affected areas for their cooperation and understanding, and further assures that it is working with all stakeholders to ensure that things return to normal as soon as possible.”
