The Bible speaking concerning John the Baptist says: “He was not the light, but he came to declare the truth about the light. The real light, which shines on everyone, was coming into the world” (John 1:8,9)
So, what exactly did our Lord mean when He said we are “the light of the world” ? He couldn’t have meant we are to be His SUBSTITUTES; He rather meant we are to be His REFLECTIONS on earth.
For this purpose He gave us His word as a mirror. Whenever we look into His word, we see two images – His glorious image and our not-too-glorious nature. His Spirit in us then works conviction, confession and repentance. That is the process that makes His glorious life ours.
The goal, joy and power of the Christian life is becoming more like Jesus. This is manifest in aligning our lives and values with His so we become His
glorious reflections on earth as The Light of The World.
