12 Igboho aides get bail in Abuja

Must read

A month after they were picked from Ibadan, Oyo State, and slammed into the detention facility of the Department of State Services, DSS, in Abuja, 12 aides of Yoruba nation separatist leader, Sunday ‘Igboho’ Adeyemi, have been granted bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu admitted them to bail in a ruling, after their counsel, Pelumi Olajengbesi, argued on their behalf.

The judge was not moved by fears expressed by DSS lawyer, Mr Idowu Awo, that some of the detainees will flee the country as their leader, Sunday Igboho, did, if granted bail.

Justice Egwuatu said that the detainees are entitled to bail by the provisions of the Nigerian law having been held in custody beyond the time stipulated by law.

According  to the judge the law does not take kindly to  citizens’ freedom being trampled on unlawfully.

The defendants were granted bail on various conditions and will remain in the DSS detention until their bail conditions are perfected.
