At the shores of despair

Must read

By Buti Sam Kputu

1By the rivers of Babylon we sat down; there we wept when we remembered Zion. 2 On the willows near by we hung up our harps. 3Those who captured us told us to sing; they told us to entertain them: “Sing us a song about Zion.” 4 How can we sing a song to the LORD in a foreign land? – PSALM 137:1-4, GNB

As we travel on this pilgrim journey, we often find ourselves in “strange lands” where life appears harsh and hard. We feel done in by the enemy and let down by our God. Our songs of Zion (praise) are replaced by songs of Babylon (Lamentation). We feel like the Disciples on the road to Emmaus.

In such moments, may we be careful to remember that “The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is His faithfulness” (Lam. 3:22-23)
