Happening: Communities in Niger, Kebbi under siege of bandits

Must read

Many villages in Rijau and Sakaba Local Government Areas of Niger and Kebbi States are under attack from bandits, reports from the communities say.

It is not exactly clear when the attacks started but community people insist that an helicopter hovered above as the bandits attacked them and stole cattle.

There is yet no report of deaths or abduction, but a source said the picture will get clearer on Thursday morning.

Said a source who reached out to Everyday.ng: “Many of our villages in Dukkawa land are currently under attack by bandits.

“Madu, Marafa, Yammah, Ungwan Chibo, Gujiya in Sakaba local government of Kebbi were affected.

“So also Girke in Rijau LGA of Niger state.

“They packed cows from many of these villages.

“Kawo and many villages around are leaving their places to Niger state and Dirin Daji

“Please let the public be aware.”

Niger State has for years been ravaged by bandits and cattle rustlers who kill and abduct at will.

The state government has often acted helpless throwing its hands up in the air, while looking up to the federal government, which controls the security agencies, to come through.

In the last two weeks, 136 school students of an Islamic school in Tegina were abducted, with bandits allegedly asking for N150 million to release them. Since then, there have been other reported cases of killings and abductions, including the kidnap of the traditional ruler of Zungeru and his two wives.
