NECO Appoints John Ogborodi, Acting Registrar 72 hours after Obioma’s passing

An Acting Registrar and Chief Executive has been named for the National Examinations Council (NECO) less than 72 after the death of the erstwhile occupier of the office, Professor Godswill Obioma. He is Mr. Ebikibina John Ogborodi.

A statement by the Head Information and Public Relations Division, Mallam Azeez Sani, said the appointment of Ogborodi, with the approval of of the Governing Board, follows the death of the Registrar, Professor Godswill Obioma on Monday, 1st June, 2021.

Until his appointment, Mr. Ogborodi was the Director Special Duties in the Council.
A Circular issued by the Director, Human Resource Management, Mr. Mustapha K. Abdul, explained that the Acting Registrar’s appointment was endorsed by the Governing Board at its emergency meeting held on 2nd June, 2021.

The statement explained that Mr. Ogborodi’s appointment was as a result of his being the most Senior Director in the Council.

All activities of the Council are to continue unabated as earlier planned, the statement added.

Sources said the board hurriedly named the new head may be unconnected with the council’s national examinations slated to take place in a few weeks.

Mr. Ogborodi hails from Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. He holds first and second Degree from the University of Jos in 1986 and 1999 in Learning Disability.

The Acting Registrar joined the service of NECO in 1999 and had served in different capacities.

He was a former Acting Director, Examination Development Department; Acting Director, Office of the Registrar; Director, General Services and Director, Human Resource Management, among others.
