The National Consultative Front, NCFront jointly led by former House Speaker, Hon. Ghali Naaba and Prof Pat Utomi has condemned the use of live ammunition on Mr Omoyele Sowore leading other unarmed protesters to express their dissatisfaction over the growing spate of insecurity and anarchy in the country.

Sowore was allegedly shot by a female Assistant Commissioner of Police during a protest near the Unity Fountain Abuja on Monday morning.

An activist, Comrade Deji Adeyanju wrote on twitter: “Got out of a meeting to join the protest at Unity Fountain, only for Femi Falana to call me asking if I was at Unity Fountain that Sowore has been shot by the police. This is Buhari’s Nigeria where protesters are treated like criminals. This is why many no longer believe in PEACE

“I was just 3mins away from Unity Fountain when I got the call that Sowore has been shot by the police. This is the Nigeria some people want others to believe in by force.”

Sowore is receiving treatment for the shot in his hip by a detachment of police operatives dispatched by the police commissioner of Abuja to stop the peaceful protest.

Said NCFtront statement: “The NCFront wishes to state that the police should have outgrown this sort of savagery and barbaric action in handling peaceful protests to a more professional way of guiding defenceless citizens’ protests.

“The shooting of defenceless and unarmed citizens and civilians is most unacceptable to the NCFront and the Front shall continue to resist it until the police purge itself of such cruel methods of engaging protesting Civilians

“To this end, we demand an immediate apology and sack of the trigger happy officer, who opened fire on Sowore and other for this needless and unprovoked gun attack as well as the best of urgent medical treatment and Compensation for Sowore and other Activists who sustained varying degrees of injuries from police attack and disruption of the peaceful protest.”
