Senator Remi Tinubu says it’s a shame for commentators to politicise a comment in which she described an allegedly unruly woman at the Marriot Hotel, Lagos venue of the Zonal Public hearing on the amendment of the constitution.
The woman had loudly taken exception to being locked out with others. On sighting Tinubu come to usher some legislators in, the woman voiced her concerns, to which Tinubu called her a thug.
When the Lagos Central Senator was asked to apologise, she refused, because, according to her, “I will not apologise forwhat I said. I saw it and I said it. She was to later say, “I’m not scared to speak. If we’re trying to build a country for you and you’re playing politics of calumny, it’s a shame; but I’m dedicated to what I do and will continue to be dedicated.
“At age 60, if I’m scared, I shouldn’t be representing my constituency.”
Tinubu, often known to bluntly speak her mind, has been roundly dubbed on social media for her ‘thug’ comment.
Earlier this Thursday, The Punch newspaper quoted human rights activist as saying Tinubu was an arrogant woman. Her words: “It’s so much disgusting arrogance from a Senator who is an elected official to speak to citizens in that manner and this is not the first time Remi Tinubu is doing this. She looks down on people. I’m sure she is used to people who come to her, rolling on the floor and she thinks everybody will bow before her family. That is why she keeps on carrying this arrogance around.”
The affected woman could not hide her anger at the venue of the public hearing when she took exception at being so called by wife of National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
As the argument between both women went on, a motley crowd gathered and frowned at Senator Tinubu’s description of the unnamed woman as a thug.
As more people gathered, the female Senator turned and walked off as more angry voices railed at her.
