We serve a Living God who is “there and is not silent”, as one writer puts it. God has always desired to communicate His mind and will to His people. The Bible calls those appointed speak for God PROPHETS. Their role is so critical and yet subject to abuse. How do we distinguish them the TRUE and FAITHFULfrom the FAKE and CHARLATANS?
Here are a few “tools” that help us to discern:
1️⃣. PROPHETS AND PROPHECIES ARE OF GOD, NOT OF THE CHURCH OR OF THE DEVIL. WE ARE NOT TO DESPISE THEM BUT RATHER SUBJECT THEM TO SCRUTINY.
Do not spurn the gifts and utterances of the prophets [do not depreciate prophetic revelations nor despise inspired instruction or exhortation or warning]. But test and prove all things [until you can recognize] what is good; to hold fast” (1Thess. 5:20-21 AMP)
We must therefore not become “Prophet sceptic” or develop “prophesy phobia”. That only short changes our spiritual experience.
