Confirmed: Hadiza Bala’s suspension; Buhari approves Amaechi’s probe panel

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the recommendation of the Ministry of Transportation under Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi for the setting up of an Administrative Panel of Inquiry to investigate the Management of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, the presidency has announced.

The President has also approved that the Managing Director, Hadiza Bala Usman step aside while the investigation is carried out. Mr Mohammed Koko will act in that position.

The panel is to be headed by the Director, Maritime Services of the Ministry while the Deputy Director, Legal of the same ministry will serve as Secretary.

Other members of the panel will be appointed by the Minister.

Everyday.ng reports that her suspension is being tied to an alleged power tussle with Transportation Minister, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi.

A knowledgeable source said Bala has been allegedly bypassing the ministry, preferring to deal directly with the presidency.

Thought to be an insider in the All Progressives Congress (APC), her suspension and replacement with Mohammed Koko in acting capacity.came as a rude shock to many.

Usman was first appointed as the Managing Director of the NPA in 2016, getting re-appointed for a second term last January.

She has been quoted as confirming her suspension, but says she has not been officially informed..
