Public Service Announcement: A mother’s passionate appeal for her 4 years old boy

Must read

I have a matter I would like your assistance on. Perhaps you could help share with some of your contacts?

My son needs surgery. And because it’s not life-threatening, a few government assistance I have sought have come back empty up till now.

The surgery would help improve his quality of life as he cannot yet stand, walk nor talk. The surgery would give him hearing.

The surgery is to cost N13 million. We have thus far raised N707, 500 and have a number of promissory notes.

Ogoluwade Jeremiah in therapy

A brief history

Case management:-Athetoid Cerebral Palsy secondary to Neonatal Jaundice. Born Preterm with G6PD deficiency

Ilori Ogoluwade Jeremiah is 4 years old now and was born preterm 32 weeks through Cesarean Section at Lagos University Teaching Hospital.

His medical journey started on the 3rd day of life, when Jaundice was diagnosed. With its unabatedness despite the use of phototherapy, further diagnosis revealed he has G6PD deficiency (rapid breakdown of the red blood cells). The Bilirubin was as high 40%. He had three exchange blood transfusions. Whilst on admission, he contracted Meningitis. He was discharged after two months of intensive treatment.
With medical follow up, he commenced therapies (Physiotherapy and Occupational therapy) at 6 months old, as delayed developmental milestones was diagnosed.

Further to this, he battled several infections and he also had enlarged Adenoid causing him to constantly breakdown. Due to this, ENT specialists also came on board, and after series of tests it was discovered that he equally has hearing loss. Auditory Brainstem Response showed he has severe hearing loss on both ears. Hearing aid was therefore recommended and it was procured.

With no significant progress after two years of usage, even with speech therapy, more test were conducted at different intervals in three diagnostic centres (International Hearing Centre – where the aids were bought – BSA and Phonics). Based on this, cochlear implant surgery is being recommended.

Hence, my reaching out for help. Little drops of water make a mighty ocean. I would appreciate all assistance given.
