Kagara. Remember the notorious town? It gets 46 years old new king, Buhari congratulates

Kagara is the headquarters of Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State. It is notorious for banditry in Niger State. Remember the Government Science College where scores of students were abducted?

It is also the town where bandits took over for hours months back and reigned Supreme. Sadly, it lost its aged king after the abducted Kagara students were released. It was suggested there that the strange happenings broke his heart.

The good news today is that a 46 years old king has been appointed by the wearied Niger State government.

State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello announced the appointment of the acting chairman of the state revenue board, Alhaji Ahmad Garba Gunna as the new Emir of Kagara.

His appointment follows the death of the former Emir Alhaji Salihu Tanko Kagara on March 1st, 2021 after a protracted illness in Minna, the state capital.

The Governor, through the Commissioner for Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mallam Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, made the announcement in Minna on Wednesday after receiving the reports of the 14 kingmakers, headed by Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad (Madakin Gunna).

The Governor said the appointment of the new Emir was in accordance with section 3 sub section (1) of the Chiefs (Appointment and Deposition) law, Chapter 19, law of the Niger state.

According to him, “having received the advice of the Niger state Council of Chiefs as required under section 7, of Cap 19, I hereby appoint you, Ahmad Garba Gunna as the 2nd Emir of Kagara”.

He emerged after defeating five other contestants in an electoral college conducted by the 14 kingmakers of the Kagara Emirate.

Others who contested with him are Alhaji Muhammad Salihu Tanko, (Bunun Kagara) the son of the late Emir, Alhaji Garba Bako (Dan Galadiman Kagara), Alhaji Aliyu Muhammad Kusherki (Katukan Kagara) and Alhaji Idris Aliyu Jibrin (Barajen Kagara).

He is married with four Children.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari felicitates with Alhaji Ahmad Garba Gunna, appointed Emir of Kagara by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State.

A statement from his office says the President urges the new Emir, who was till his appointment Chairman of the state’s Revenue Board, to use the wealth of experience garnered in the public sector to serve his people, and bring development to his domain.

With the security challenges facing the country, the President equally urges the new Emir to use his position as a grassroots personality, to engender protection of lives and property, stressing that the traditional institution has a great role to play in security.

President Buhari prays that the time of the new Emir will bring peace, security, development and progress to Kagara.

Alhaji Gunna, to be known as Ahmad Attahiru II, succeeds Alhaji Salihu Tanko, who passed away recently.
