“…Pay attention to those who follow the right example that we have set for you.” (Phil. 3:17, GNT).
We live in a world that craves for heroes, celebrates the heroic and literally worships heroes. Our heroes or heroines however, are but just a reflection of our values and aspirations. We tend to advertise and worship those we admire and long to be like.
Paul, in the 3rd chapter of his epistle to the Philippians, gives believers a template for choosing heroes. They should be:
¶ Believers who are Chris-like in their pattern of life and not just “Christians” by name (vs. 17)
¶ People who are humble and self-effacing, not proud, self-indulgent and self-promoting (vs. 18)
¶ People who live for, and glory in, things of eternal value, not in the ephemeral vanities of this world (vs. 19)
We tend to grow in the image of those we love and admire. We need therefore watch those we make heroes of. JESUS IS THE PERFECT HERO, THE REAL DEAL!
