Not less than 37 persons perished in two separate accidents in Akwanga, Nasarawa State on the Abuja- Jos road, and the Bauchi – Maiduguri road following collisions that led to fire outbreaks.
In Akwanga, a commercial bus rammed into an oncoming car, leading to the death of 17 persons, while 20 passengers died in the multiple accidents along Bauchi – Maiduguri expressway near Tirwun village a suburb of Bauchi capital city.
Only two persons reportedly survived in one of the buses.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi Command Ahmed Wakili said the corpses have been deposited in the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Mortuary, Bauchi..
According to Wakili the accident occurred on Sunday afternoon when two commercial vehicles; a Volkswagen Golf heading from Misau to Bauchi and a Hummer Bus heading to Maiduguri from Jos collided.
