And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her EYES upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.
Genesis 39:7.
Mrs. Portiphar with her EYES full of sexual lust had over the years cast her EYES on Joseph.
The eye is the gate into the mind and how the eye sees reflects what we are.
The bible talks about the evil eye – Deuteronomy 15:9, Proverbs 23:6 & Matthew 6:23.
In Deuteronomy 15:9, the evil eye is one which is covetous and is set on acquiring all that comes into view by hook or crook.
Jesus tells us that if the eye be evil, the heart will be full of darkness.
Mrs. Portiphar could only see Mr. Joseph as a sex object. That was what she saw and it blinded her sense of reasoning as she covetted him.
Mrs. Eve ADAM had been in a similar situation with her quest for food and knowledge. “And when the woman SAW that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the EYES…” Genesis 3:6.
It is for this reason that the Bible warns us about the lust of the eyes – 1 John 2:16.
May God give us good eyes to behold righteousness and bring light into our bodies.
