Must read

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has wielded the big stick, sacking the Chairman of Kogi State Board of Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), Alhaji Aliyu Inda Salami.

Also fired along with him are the Board members after they were summoned to the Government House, Lokoja on Monday.

The Governor immediately appointed an Interim Management Committee that will oversee the management of the daily affairs of the service.

Though the reason for the action was not given but it was reliably gathered that the governor ordered them to vacate office within ten minutes.

The sources said Bello took the action after a brief meeting with them.

It was gathered that some officials of Government accompanied them to the Chairman’s office at the Revenue House to supervise their immediate eviction from office.

Staff of the agency were however taken by surprise as some whose documents were waiting for the Chairman’s attention were stranded in the office on Monday.

Aliyu Inda Salami was appointed Chairman KGIRS in December 2018 to succeed Yakubu Oseni who was elected to represent Kogi Central Senatorial district in the Senate.

The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, however, later explained that their sack was due to ‘violation of corporate Governance’ in the service’s adding that Governmemt acted to save the service from further violations.

According to him, the decision was prompted by the 2019 Audited Financial Report of the service.

“The Governor is conscious of issues that have to do with excellent corporate governance, transparency and accountability.

“The 2019 audited financial report of the service shows that there were infractions and the Governor had to take a decision to ensure the service is repositioned.
In their place. The Governor has appointed an Interim Management Committee to oversee the daily affairs of the service.

“The newly appointed Interim Management Committee is to be chaired by the Commissioner of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning Asiwaju, Asiru Idris.
Other members are the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Ibrahim Sani Muhammed; the Auditor General of the State, Yakubu Olala; the Auditor-General for Local Governments Usman Ododo; while the Accountant General of the State is to serve as Secretary.
