“Then Jesus went out to them and said, Whom are you seeking? They answered Him, Jesus the Nazarene. Jesus said to them, I am He…” -John 18:4-5, AMP
WHAT do you seek? was the first question Jesus posed to John’s disciples as they left John to follow Him. “Rabbi”,Teacher, they answered. They wanted a relationship, not just a blessing. They made time to be with Him (Jn.1:38-39)
WHOM do you seek? was the question He posed to the soldiers Judas led to arrest Him. They answered correctly, Jesus, but with a corrupt heart of betrayal (Jn.18:4-5). A right head on a wrong heart?.
How often do we say the right things and sing the right songs while our hearts hums a different tune?
The Lord Jesus appears to always demand that those who come to Him must first clarify their motives. He first reads our hearts, not our lips. Our reason for coming to or after Him determines, not just how we walk with Him but, how He walks with us.
