Executive Director of Citizens Advocaty for Social and Economic Rights (CASER), Barrister Frank Tietie, has backed the new regulations in Company and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, because of the pervasive fraud in most of their operations.
Reacting to an opinion piece in Everyday.ng Tietie said, “NGO operators, including the ones run by so-called activists and professionals reflect some of the worst forms of corruption and dictatorship in Nigeria.
“Can the Nigerian public ask why NGOs are always afraid of regulation? They want to hold the government to account while they, do not want to be accountable either to the public or its members. They want freedom of information from government yet they are always scared when government wants information from them and about them.
“NGO operators should wake up and learn to function in an environment of strict regulation and compliance to law, as in the United Kingdom from where many of the provisions in the new CAMA were adopted.
“The various forms of fraud committed in the name of NGOs are quite enormous.”
