Niger Governor inaugurates state economic advisory council

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has inaugurated the Niger State Economic Advisory Committee (EACOM) with the mandate to appraise the state government’s approaches and strategies as well as profer recommendations on how best to improve the revenue profile of the State and reduce reliance on Federal allocation.
The inauguration, presided over by the Governor took place at the Government House Minna the State capital, according to a statement by the Bello’s spokeswoman, Mrs. Mary Noel-Berje.
The 30-man Committee which is to be headed by Dr Suleiman Ndanusa is expected to work with the Permanent Secretary,  Economic Affairs, Permanent Secretary ESACON, Director ECD and Director Administration as the Secretariat.
Inaugurating the Committee, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello said members of the committee were carefully selected among many individuals,  hence he enjoined them to make vigorous and thorough submissions that will help direct the State government towards making viable implementation process for the economic development of the State.
Bello said setting up the committee is critical to consolidating the socio-economic successes made by his administration, and urged the Committee members to use their wealth of knowledge and collective influence to help attract workable investment opportunities to the State; stimulate economic activities with enhanced, accelerated job creation; and poverty reduction strategies
Other terms of reference for the committee include to advise the state government on relevant macro economic and sectoral policies; come up with strategies for the attainment of the set goals and objectives of the State; and advise the State government on public debt management practices.
They are also expected to advise government on development issues affecting the local government areas; consider other matters related to the socio-economic and financial affairs of the state as directed by the Governor from time to time; and to provide quarterly reports to the Governor on the state’s economy.
