National Assembly Clerk, Sani Omolori, replaced by Ojo

After an eventful two days, the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) has finally replaced the embattled Clerk to the National Assembly, Alhaji M.A. Sani-Omolori, with an acting clerk, Mr. Olatunji Ojo.
After an emergency meeting, the Commission approved appointment of some senior management staff of the National Assembly management.
In a statement, the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Ahmed Kadi Amshi, says the appointments are with immediate effect.
Bala Yabani Mohammed is the Acting Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly and Dauda Ibrahim El-Ladan is Senate Acting Clerk.
The Clerk of the House of Representatives, Patrick Giwa iemains until he retires next November.
Yusuf Asir Dambata is the Secretary to the Commission. replacing Olusanya Ajakaiye.
On Thursdat, Sani-Omolori, was queried for questioning the authority of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) and issuing a statement countermanding it.
Signed by the Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission, he was given 24 hours to explain why disciplinary action would not be taken against him.
The query reads: “The attention of the National Assembly Service Commission was drawn to a Press Release titled: “Retirement age for staff of the National Assembly Service is 40 years of Service or 65 years of Age, whichever comes first” dated 15th July, 2020 and signed by M.A Sani-Omolori, Clerk to the National Assembly.
“As you are very much aware, the Clerk to the National Assembly is an employee of the National Assembly Service Commission, vide Section 6(1)b of the National Assembly Service Act, 2014 (As amended).
“The Clerk to the National Assembly has no authority whatsoever to dictate anything to the Commission.
“Your press release is considered by the Commission as a gross insubordination to a constituted authority.
“You are, by this letter requested to explain to the Commission within twenty-four (24) hours as to why disciplinary action will not be taken against you as per the provision of Section 6(2)b of the National Assembly Service Act, 2014 (As Amended) for this gross insubordination.”
Recall that after the commission issued a statement sending Omolori and over 100 others on compulsory retirement, the clerk issued his own asking staff to ignore the Commission and go about their duties.
