Two suspects alleged to have murdered a 12 year old herder have been arrested by
Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Special Tasks Force (STF) in charge of security in Plateau State.
The herder, one Mustapha Abubakar was reported killed while rearing his father’s cows at Dong village in Jos North Local Government Area by the suspects.
A press statement signed by the information Officer of the Jos North Local Government Area, Mr Philip Eplong, described the incident as”heartless” and “wicked.”
Eplong explained that the suspects are  presently  in the custody of the Police.
He said that the Commander, Sector 3 of Operations Safe Haven, Colonel Tosin Ayoola made the disclosure while briefing the council’s Management Committee Chairman, Mr Shehu Bala Usman,  on the security situation in the area
“According to him, a combined security team is working hard to apprehend the remaining fleeing suspects for further interrogation.
“Already, the STF team will  continue to work closely with  inhabitants of the area to sustain the peace of  the area,” he assured.
Responding, Usman  condemned the killing of the young cattle rearer describing it as “very unfortunate.”
The LG boss further explained that the killing happened when the council was in constant engagement with the  Irigwe, Afizere, Berom and Fulani in the community on the need for peaceful coexistence amongst them.
He, however, called on  the people of the Area to remain calm as security agencies and the Council are on top of the situation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
According to him, the attack came when Government at all levels were fighting the  dreaded COVID 19 pandemic.
Usman warned residents of the Area that the Council would not accept any further breach of the peace in the locality.
