Plateau LG Chairman, Mandyau, dies of pneumonia, thyphoid

Barrister Ezekiel Mandyau, Management Committee Chairman, Barkin-Ladi Local Government of Plateau is dead.
Everyday.ng reports that the unfortunate incident occured around 6.00pm of Thursday, July 2, throwing the family and residents of the Area into great shock and mourning.
A family member and brother to the deceased, Mr Dan Mandyau, who confirmed the death said Mandyau, 52, died of pneumonia and thyphoid fever at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).
Dan, in tears, stated that the chairman, was full of life Sunday, when he convened a peace dialogue meeting between herders and farmers in his home village of Nghar in Gashish District of the Area.
On Monday, he added, Mandyau took ill and went to JUTH. Several tests were carried out on him since he first complained of strange abdominal pains on Tuesday, but the results returned negative. His condition continued to degenerate until he gave up the ghost.
According to hospital sources, a Covid-19 test which was among the last to be carried out was yet to be confirmed when he died.
Mandyau, a trained lawyer and renowned human rights activist was appointed to head the crisis-riden Barkin-Ladi local government in October 2019, by the Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong.
His appointment was sequel to the security threats hindering elections in the LGA.
In just 30 days in office, Mandyau authorized the auditing of the LGC’s accounts for transparency and accountability, distributed project priority forms to communities, held peace meetings in all the LGA’s districts as well as began talks with private organizations for investment, educational empowerment and job creation.
Everyday.ng reports that the corpse of the chairman has been deposited at the JUTH Mortuary .
