Video: Anger at Abuja hospitals, medical personnel

Must read

The anger is said to be nationwide, but for others; it is disappointment, gross disappointment. Ironically, others have simply chosen not to go to the hospital when sick for fear of contracting a disease of strange descent. Or being tagged a patient of the ailment for displaying symptoms of common cold.
In Kogi State, some communities in Igalaland have come up with a funny proverb: Amibo China joję, a jemi a gwowo wa. (In China, they ate the food, here we are washing our hands all the time).

For the health workers, it is simply playing safe in a system that cares not for its health professionals, especially those in the public sector.
Covid-19 brought it all to the fore, but it was also a time for well-meaning individuals to step forward. One medical consultant, after seeking co-operation with authorities of the Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA) to no avail, is taking mobile hospital to sick people at home in the rural areas.
He does not wish to be named for now, but expresses anger, like a trending video, that the country is not contextualising safety protocols that work for Nigerians.
Like a handful of others, he frowns at the copy and paste nature of Nigerian policy makers, who ‘follow-follow’ the World Health Organisation (WHO).
