“Our Father, who art in Heaven…” – Matthew 6:9
By Buti Sam Kputu
We had decided to visit a care home at Christmas to share love with them. I had thought it was a motherless babies home. My wife corrected me, it was an orphanage. Our daughter, then ten, interjected, “daddy, why do we have many motherless children homes but no home for fatherless children?” Thought for food?
Strong, respectable, present and caring fathers are the bedrocks of healthy, stable and thriving homes and societies. The absence of such is largely responsible for the many dysfunctional homes and communities we see around.
One of the great social tragedies of our day is not the preponderance of ‘motherless children’ homes but the near absence of Fatherless children homes.
Our God presents himself as a FATHER who is ever-present, caring, protecting and providing a moral compass to His children, through appropiate disciplines. That is a template for fatherhood on earth.
