UniMaid student, two others abducted; bandits ask for N100m to free 58

A student of the University of Maiduguri and two unidentified young men have been allegedly abducted by persons suspected to be terrorists along Ben Sheik- Maiduguru road in Borno State.
Miss Lillan Daniel Gyang, a 100 Level student of Zoology, was allegedly abducted last week Thursday between the hours of 4.00 and 5.00 p.m.
A Christian from Foron district of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, tge 20 year-old is the recent in the number of Plateau indigenes abducted in the recent past.
Her abduction is coming as bandits who raided and sacked 10 communities in Kaduna State are asking for N100 million to release 58 abducted villagers. They have been held since last week Monday.
Former House of Representatives member and President of the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) Jonathan Asake, on a visit to an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp at the uncompleted Community Secondary School, Unguwan Bije, Gonin Gora, lamented the incessant attacks on the Southern part of the State, peopled by farmers.
He called on the Federal Government to find a lasting solution to the spate of attacks, while pleading for aid for the displaced persons.
A community leader narrated the ordeal of the farming communities in the hands of the armed bandits he alleged are of Fulani heritage.
Habila Sarkin Noma Rumana words: “We have been under attack in the past but we always find ways of surviving them.What we know is that the attackers are well armed and are Fulani.
“They would graze on our crops and threaten to kill us if we protest. Sometimes they would attack and take captives. We will manage and pay ransoms. Even after paying, sometimes they kill the victims.
“But the ones that took place on January 6, 2020 was the worst. Hundreds of armed gunmen invaded about 10 of our villages at the same time. They carried out deadly attacks and looted our villages.
“At the last count, between 34 to 36 people were killed. In fact, 58 people were kidnapped from what the kidnappers said. But we still can’t account for many, they are hiding in the forest and bushes….
“The kidnappers have called. They say we must produce N100m as ransom if we want to have them alive. I don’t know how they expect us to raise that money.
“They stole our cattle, looted our valuables, stole and burnt our grains. We escaped by the grace of God.”
