Release
One of Nigeria’s best, world acclaimed petroleum engineer and prolific academic, Dr Ohioma Arukhe has concluded plans to establish the Petroleum and Chemical Engineering Educational Society (PCEES), in order to promote, to an unprecedented level, the principles of research and development in the teaching and practice of petroleum and chemical engineering in Africa, particularly, Nigeria.
Dr. Arukhe who is a 2020-2021 Distinguished Lecturer for the Society of Petroleum Engineers, has a practical experience which spans nearly three decades as a top echelon petroleum engineer in Shell, Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Petro-Canada and Saudi Aramco. He plans to use PCEES to rally international support for a number of African Universities that have Petroleum and Chemical Engineering Departments.
The Department of Petroleum Engineering of University of Benin in Nigeria is likely to be the first beneficiary of this initiative. Dr Arukhe has engaged the services of T & T Forthright, a firm of development consultants in Nigeria, to work out the institutional and developmental modalities with the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Education and the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology to ensure the smooth intervention of the PCEES initiative in Nigeria.
PCEES in the immediate will give to select African Universities, including the University of Benin, such support as provision of textbooks, online journals and subscriptions to academic research materials. These preliminary interventions will form the pilot stage by which PCEES will map out its extension strategy to other African universities. Special attention will be given to the area of research assistance to these universities.
