Political Thugs Attack Kwankwaso’s Convoy in Kano, 15 Injured

At least 15 members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Kwankwasiyya Movement were injured Monday afternoon as a result of attacks by thugs said to be loyal to State Government, the spokesperson of PDP gubernatorial candidate, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa has said.

But the Kano State government says the attack is a function of an internal disagreement in the camp of the former Governor and sitting Senator, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, whose political feud with Governor Umar Ganduje is well known.

The PDP alleges that Kwankwaso’s supporters were on their way back from Kwankwaso village in Madobi Local Government where the the former Kano State Governor Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso commissioned a female private College of Nursing and Midwifery (NAFCONM)  to mark his 63rd birthday, when they were attacked.

“Information at our disposal confirmed to us that hundreds of political thugs were assembled by officials of Kano State Government at the Sharada/Sabon Titin Panshekara underpass bridge with the sole aim of disrupting the convoy of the opposition PDP Kwankwasiyya at around 1.30pm today Monday 21st, 2019”.

“The government sponsored thugs went on rampage destroying vehicles of notable leaders among which are Air Commodore Zakari Sani, Dr. Danyaro Ali Yakasai, who is a former Commandant General of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) and many others. They also snatched two vehicles and a motorcycle, brown Honda Civic (Wagon) with registration number XA521KUR and dark blue Golf Wagon belonging to Mukhtar Isa of Sharada, Salihu Kabir Faskari  and Aminu Lawal Abdullahi of Zangon Dakata respectively”, the statement added.

The opposition party describedThe attack, as a ‘barbaric political thuggery’ aimed at intimidating the opposition in the state.

The party frowned at the lack of response of security agencies, though they had prior information on the planned attack.

Kwankwaso’s spokesperson, Hajiya Binta Sipikin, said, “This attack was preplanned because we were told that heavy-armed thugs were waiting under the bridge to attack us when we were coming from Madobi.

“We believe Ganduje was behind this attack because we heard one of his aide names being mentioned during the attack.”

She noted that scores of their members were seriously injured and currently receiving medical attention in various clinics including the International Hospital while 10 vehicles destroyed and personal items carted away by political thugs.

A top aide to Governor Ganduje, who pleaded not to be named, denied his principal being behind the attack.

He said, “The attack was a misunderstanding between the Kwankwasiyya members, who accused Kwankwaso of betraying their trust by after them for his personal gains.”
