The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Malam Muhammad Musa Bello has called on staff of the FCT Administration to play their roles as individuals and part of the collective for the overall success of the Administration.
Malam Bello stated this today while declaring open the maiden edition of the FCT Chapter of Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) Week. He emphasized that when staff do not do their jobs, there was bound to be a system failure.
He used an analogy of a ship with a captain and crew members to describe the relationship between the staff of the FCTA and its management, saying each must play their parts to keep the ship afloat and prevent it from sinking.
He said: “Organisations, including the FCTA are like ships on the ocean where for a ship to set sail from one port to the other, requires tremendous amount of unity and cooperation between the captain and his crew.
He continued “If every one, no matter how important or non-important, no matter how big or how small, does not play his or her part, that ship will never be able to reach the port. And if this does not happen and certain things are not done well, the ship will sink. And when a ship sinks, everybody sinks. And even if there are survivors, they are going to survive in a very weak state”.
The Minister commended the umbrella union (JUAC) for the major role it is playing to ensure industrial harmony, staff cooperation and support, adding that he could not have achieved the much he did in his first tenure as Minister without the support and cooperation of staff.
While soliciting for the continuous support of staff for his second tenure as FCT Minister, he assured that he will do his best to ensure a better and more productive workforce for the FCTA.
In his words, Malam Bello said, “I am here this morning to solicit for your support once more and to assure you that by the Grace of God Almighty, I am going to do my very best to steer the ship of the FCT correctly and successfully, so that we will be able to reach the port that we are destined to be”.
In his welcome remark, the Chairman of FCT JUAC, Oluwakorede Matilukore promised the cooperation and support of staff for the success of his second stint in office as FCT Minister as he lauded him for the tremendous achievements recorded between 2015 and the first half of 2019.
