The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)in Anambra state has vowed to retake the governorship seat of the state away from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
This was repeatedly echoed at the party’s zonal interractive stakeholders meeting which attracted party stalwarts in Awka.
The meeting which was at the behest of the South East zonal leadership executive of the PDP presented opportunity for no fewer than five(5) 2021 governorship hopefuls to make their intentions public.
Though there were indications that more aspirants will join the guber race, those who used the floor of the Awka zonal meeting to announce their intentions to run included Chiefs Chuma Nzeribe, Chris Azubogu, Enyioha Okeke, Dr Obiora Okonkwo, añd Barrister Emeka Etiaba, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
The zonal chairman Deacon Austin Umahi, after listening to members appraise how the party has fared in the state, assured all that the road to the party’s 2021 Anambra governorship ticket will be through a credible and transparent primary.
He charged members to resist any form of mercantile tendencies that often sees money playing an undue prominent role in the process. “We are resolute to win. It’s only external forces that often work against us…”, he pointed out.
The chairman of PDP in the state, Hon Ndubuishi Nwobu said for the PDP to come out victorious in the 2021 governorship election, the candidate of the party must emerge through a credible and transparent party primary.
“It is imperative for the party to ensure transparency in the party primary and we expect the zonal and National Working Committee to support us in this direction.
“Anambra people especially the PDP family will not accept any candidate who emerge through a fraudulent process. The people are not asking for too much but a credible process that will produce a generally accepted candidate.” He said.
The chairman said it would be easy for all the aspirants to support the eventual winner once they are satisfied that the party primary is credible and transparent.
