The first in a series of rewards has come the way of an air force man who found and returned €37,000 found in Kano market. He has been commended by his Commander-in-chief, President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Aircraftman, Bashir Umar, found and returned the mouth-watering sum in a parcel at the Hajj Camp Market in Kano State to the owner.

Umar, of the NAF Mobile Air Defence Team deployed for airport security duties, found the parcel during a routine patrol with some of his colleagues, according to the air force in a statement on Sunday.

President Buhari commended Umar for the feat, describing such honesty as “uncommon, patriotic and exemplary.” He enjoins Nigerians, especially the youth, to emulate such worthy gesture.

According to President Buhari, “Honesty and integrity will always remain admirable virtues, notwithstanding challenges before any country.”

He also applauds the leadership of the NAF for its decision to “reward the airman so as to encourage other personnel of the Service to continue to embody attitudes and behaviours that reflect NAF’s core values of Integrity, Excellence and Service Delivery.”

Umar, the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola,
returned the money, which was said to belong to one Alhaji Ahmad, after calling a phone number he found on the parcel.

Daramola said the air force is set to reward Umar adding, “consequently, the Chief of Air Staff has directed the Chief of Administration at the NAF Headquarters, Air Marshal Kingsley Lar, to immediately come up with modalities to reward the airman so as to encourage other personnel of the service to continue with attitudes that reflect the air force’s core values of integrity, excellence and service delivery.”
