Hmmmmn, the Federal Government of Nigeria has suspended the Ruga policy.
There will be an emergence of another strategy but in the same direction.
You really have to give it to the Fulani, their political ingenuity will amaze you.
To conquer people, wipe out their leaders, impose your own people on them as leaders and then get the same people that you are oppressing and exploiting to support and defend you because you brought them the “true” version of a way of life. There many tribes, even in the Middle Belt and the north of Nigeria, including the core Hausa people and the Yoruba of Ilorin, who would support the Fulani and advocate for the Rugas.
This is the exact strategy:- They conquer tribes, wipe out their leaders and the conquered people either sympathise or protect the conquerors on the basis of religion. Much more worse when they install some of the conquered tribe’s men as the puppet head or are given a chieftancy title.
Furthermore, the conquered people and yet-to-be conquered people are each disunited in the favour of the conquerors because of the same joker of religion. You can see why even when the obvious is brought out clearly many in ilorin and the core southwest will fight you. Your exposing the conquerors’ antecedent and history will fall on their deaf ears.
In the east, I can affirm that the people of Afikpo will welcome the Ruga and run gun business against their own ethnic nationality. And when any of them is caught, the seemingly “objective” educated people from the other tribes will shout it on the rooftops that the local people run the gun business for the “terrorists”. Woe betide the east once they are able to install a governor from Afikpo.
A similar pattern is copied and is happening even in Kenya. The Al-Shabab who are mainly Cushitic Somalis now use the non-cushitic people to do their muderous campaigns of terror.
In their strategy, they will parade other common criminals caught in kidnapping to declare their objectivity and market their products of confusion. Meanwhile, the real agents of death are protected and any law enforcement officer that touches them are frustrated or killed. All terrorists arrested are set free and re-equipped as warriors of the faith with the support of the Conquered and yet to be conquered allies.
Very simple strategy that fooled and rubbished a lot of people, no matter the height of education of the learned ones among the conquered and the yet-to-be conquered peoples. Even when their own villages are set on fire, some of them will accept the killing of fellow tribesmen who are of their faith as collateral damage that should happen for the sake of the faith.
Some will even mount a campaign of deceit, saying the terrorist are not “true faithful” rather they excused what should have been done: the active efforts to fight the murderous genocidal killings of their “brothers”!!! Who is fooling who?
