With five days to go for the new Senate to have its first sitting, Senator Danjuma Goje, a top contender to the number three seat in the country has endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC)-approved comtender and Senate Majority Leader, Ahmed Lawan.
Goje told State House Correspondents he stepped down because President Muhammadu Buhari advised him to do so.
Both men arrived the Presidential Villa and entered a meeting with Buhari before noon Thursday.
Effectively, the stage is clear for the two contenders known candidates, Lawan and Ali Ndume, who has sworn not to step down for anyone.
Lawan replaced Ndume as Senate Leader as he stepped out of the Senate chambers to pray years ago. Ndume is believed not to have forgiven that move by a ‘Muslim and North-East brother’. Ndume is from Borno, while is Lawan is from Yobe.
