Fatoyinbo/Busola Dakolo: CAN condemns rape, seeks info on alleged scandal

Must read

The usually reticent Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has spoken up on the alleged rape scandal trailing flamboyant senior pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo. It has called for information on the matter from the bloc the pastor belongs to in the Association.

Fatoyinbo belongs to the Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (CPFN) /Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) bloc in CAN. Others are the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN); Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN); Organization of African Instituted Churches (OAIC) and the TEKAN and ECWA Fellowship)

But in general terms, the umbrella group of Christians has strongly condemned rape.

In a statement, the spokesman and Special Assistant (Media & Communications) to the CAN President, His Eminence, Rev Dr Samson Ayokunle, Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, the Association said, as a body, condemned rape no matter who was involved.

“It is ungodly, wicked, and reprehensible” it said.

“However, on the allegations against Pastor Tolu Fatoyinbo,” CAN added, “we have no details about the matter other than what we are reading and hearing from from the social media, this is not reliable and credible evidence enough to jump into a conclusion.

“The CAN Leadership, therefore, has reached out to the leadership of the block which the Pastor in question belongs with a view to getting to the root of the matter. This will help us to make the right decision on the issue”.

Fatoyinbo and wife of musician, Timi Dakolo, Bukola, have been involved in an exchange over whether or not he defiled her at age 16.
