The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the north has called on the federal government to intensify its efforts in bringing the challenge of insecurity to a permanent stop.
The leadership expressed concern over the insecurity in the region and appeals to Governors from the region to act fast to curb the menace and not pay lip service to the issue of security.
Meanwhile, the 19 Northern States branch of CAN has re-elected Rev Yakubu Pam as Chairman for another term of three years.
The election was held on Friday 3rd May 2019 at CAN Secretariat Kaduna. Most of the previous leaders were re-elected with Rev Joseph John Hayab, the former Public Relations Officer, now the Vice Chairman.
The election was conducted by Barrister Samuel Kwamkur, the National Legal Adviser, supported by Rev Dr Emmanuel Dziggau.
The new leaders were charged to work for the unity and progress of the church in Northern Nigeria.
The re-elected Chairman with his deputy pledged to defend Christians’ rights and to work with other faith groups to promote peace in Northern Nigeria.
Other elected officials are: Barrister Danladi Yerima (Secretary); Sup. Apostle Adeshina (Asst. Secretary); Very Rev. Fr. Andrew Dodo (Treasurer); Rev. Dr. Sunday Ibrahim (Financial Secretary); Elder Samari (Auditor); Snr. Apostle Raphael Adejumobi (Legal Adviser); and Evangelist Emmanuel Joseph (Director Research).
Rev.Gilbert Jechonia from Adamawa is the new Public Relations Officer.
