PRAYER is central to all Faiths; more so among Christians. The popular jingle is, “a Prayerless Christian is a Powerless Christian”.
The key issue in prayer however is how to gain God’s attention and obtain an answer. Is it by perseverance or pressuring? The difference atimes is not clear to us, but not to God.
Perseverance is a continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition. Our Lord Jesus recommends that in prayer._
Pressuring however is to persuade or coerce (someone) into doing something. And that is what we atimes inadvertently seek to do by citing our ‘spiritual resume’ or our “fast” to force an answer from God. It may work but many times to our detriment._
Israel pressured God for a king and for a change of menu. The prodigal son pressurized his father for his share of the estate. They got it but to their detriment. May we never mistake persistence in prayer with pressuring The LORD.
